The main difference between these two portfolios is that, while the Financial Controller is in charge of the main club account, the Assistant Financial Controller handles the accounts of the sub-clubs. As the FC or the AFC, you are responsible for the preparation of the budgets of the club, and the vetting of the budgets of the sub-clubs as well as the various events organised by the club. You would have to constantly monitor the work of the treasurers in the various committees or sub-clubs so as to ensure that all activities are carried out within budget. This portfolio requires not only meticulous accounting, but also great diplomacy and inter-personal skills since you will be dealing directly with the Bursar as well as sub-club treasurers. After closing the various accounts, you will then have to process all invoice payments and, of course, the reinbursements, and this is when you automatically become the most popular person in the committee as you hand out all the cheques!
